CrimInAll records is an independent record company providing small scale distribution, recording and releasing services, as well as assisting artists with booking shows and tours. Our aim is to encourage musical innovation rather than enforcing musical imitation. The underlying philosophy behind CIA records is to build strong communities and networks, where people interact and work together towards common goals. So instead of DIY, we're into the idea of DIO - "Do It Ourselves" - it's about collective action, getting crews together to pool resources and skills to achieve things in our scenes or communities that we could not do alone. This ethic means that CrimInAll records develops projects without being controlled by major corporate dollars, giving us the freedom to strongly express our belief in social justice and environmentalism. We reckon it's important to do this, to validate the views of those who are generally not represented through mainstream media and culture - it's only by empowering people to believe that they have the right to have their opinions heard can we create positive social change. Ways that we try to put this into practice include promoting shows in regional areas and locations that the mainstream industry often doesn't bother about, doing things in partnership with artists of a variety of genres and artistic media - particularly those who don't get the recognition we think they deserve, doing our best to keep shows and merchandise affordable for average yobs like us, and supporting campaigns and fundraisers. By doing all this, the ultimate aim is to create an environment for all people - regardless of race, gender, sexuality, and so on - to have fun!!! |
