News:
Sir Joh Resigns - 20 Years To The Day is an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sir Joh
Bjelke-Petersen being forced to resign as Queensland Premier on 1 December, 1987. Bjelke-Petersen was
Queensland's longest-serving premier, elected to power by a minority of voters due to a gerrymander electoral system.
His reign was characterised by attacks against the arts, unions, indigenous rights, freedom of speech rights, public
assembly rights and others, as well as institutionalised corruption amongst politians and the police.
To celebrate this anniversary, come along to a gig in Brisbane on Sat 1 December 2007, featuring bands and political
speakers. For details see the events page or scoot here.
We have also put together a "Sir Joh Resigns" compilation CD. Featuring Alien Virus, The Molotov, Dead Riot, Jack
Flash, Steve Towson, ACT and Jai Sparks, it's available for $10/$5. See the catalogue page for more details.
